The book, The Polyvagal Theory: Neurophysiological Foundations of Emotions, Attachment, Communication, and Self-Regulation, by Stephen W. Porges is groundbreaking. I found an easier read without quite so much of the research in it is The Pocketbook Guide to The Polyvagal Theory: The Transformative Power of Feeling Safe, also by Stephen W. Porges. This theory is an explanation for the increased chronic pain, autoimmune diseases, as well as other health issues in the United States. I highly recommend it for all healthcare workers and educators.
